In the late 1980's the State of California CDC needed more bed space and cities and counties were given contracts to house low level state inmates. The Taft Community Correctional Facility (CCF) began as a AB1591 - Return To Custody Facility or RTC. Our facility was built in 1990 and opened January 1991. It can house up to 526 beds and employs 63 people, 45 of which are correctional officers. For 21 years the facility operated with a state contract and enjoyed a very high approval rating after yearly inspections and audits by the CDCR. In October of 2011 the implementation of AB109 - Prison Realignment, the inmates were transferred and the facility was closed.
In July of 2012 The Taft CCF was modified and inspected and by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) for use as a Type III county jail. We are rated for a capacity of 512 beds and we are also ADA compliant.
We are currently looking to house county contract inmates or lease the facility to a public or private entity to house inmates. Please click for our CCF Information Brochure
