Planning Department

PURPOSE
The Planning Department performs multiple functions to ensure that development within the City is consistent with the goals of the General Plan. These functions include current and long-term (comprehensive) planning, redevelopment planning, the review of site and development plans, and providing technical support to the City Council and Planning Commission.
GENERAL PLANNING AND ZONING ASSISTANCE
The department provides assistance to the public on questions regarding planning and zoning in the City. The City of Taft Zoning Map designates districts in the City where certain land uses are permitted.

PLANNING INFORMATION SYSTEMS
The Department is in the process of establishing a Geographic Information Systems unit to provide a variety of information on the City’s infrastructures, planning, zoning, environmental and related data.
